Why you want Dahlie RIP City in your garden

Dahlia 'Rip City' – deep dark red dahlia with velvety flowers
Dahlia 'Rip City' always reminds me of a glass of full-bodied red wine by candlelight, a deep, warm red. Its flowers, about 20 cm across, have a color gradient from almost blackish-red in the center to a vibrant burgundy on the outside. Her large, 20 cm flowers are held aloft on sturdy stems and dance above the dark leaves to the rhythm of the wind.

Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Rip City' blooms all summer long until the first frost with large, decorative flowers. The plants grow to about 100 cm tall and stand firmly on their stems. A nice detail: thanks to the strong stems, this variety requires little support, even with its large flower heads. The more often you cut flowers, the more new buds the plant will continue to produce – ideal for those who like to fill their vases.

Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in loose, fertile soil in a sunny spot. Water extra during dry spells. Remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and give the plant energy for new blooms. Dig up the tubers in winter and store them frost-free, or protect them with a thick layer of straw in mild winters.

Why choose Dahlia 'Rip City'?
The deep red flowers form the perfect base for a dahlia arrangement in a warm color palette. The large blooms combined with the strong stems make it an excellent cut flower.

Combination tip
I love the combination with other warm colours such as Dahlia Copperboy.
