Dahlia 'Preference' – a cactus dahlia in soft peachy pink tones
Dahlia 'Preference' is a recurring theme in my garden every summer. It's an old favorite, thanks to its beautiful color gradient of soft pink, yellow, and peach. The flowers have a playful cactus shape and combine beautifully with other dahlia varieties. It's a prolific variety that yields armfuls of flowers all summer long.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Preference' blooms profusely and for a long time, from summer until the first frost. The flowers are medium-sized, about 12 cm in diameter, and appear on sturdy, long stems. Because of its prolific blooms, it continuously produces new buds, especially when you cut flowers for the vase. It also retains its shape and color surprisingly well in the vase, making it a popular cut flower.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in loose, well-drained soil and place them in full sun. During dry weeks, they'll need some extra water. Remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and give the plant energy for new buds. In winter, you can dig up the tubers and store them in a frost-free place, or protect them with mulch during mild winters.
