Dahlia 'Polka' – playful flowers with a raspberry edge
Dahlia 'Polka' is a variety I never tire of, because no two flowers are alike. The soft cream-colored petals have a raspberry-red edge, and in the center shines a fluffy yellow heart bursting with nectar.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Polka' blooms from July until the first frost and continues to produce new flowers throughout. The flowers are about 10 cm across and stand tall on long stems, making them perfect as cut flowers. The more flowers you cut off, the more abundantly the plant will rebloom.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in loose, well-drained soil in a sunny spot. During dry weeks, provide some extra water. Regularly removing spent flowers will encourage flowering and keep the plant investing energy in new buds. In winter, you can dig up the tubers and store them frost-free, or protect them with a thick layer of mulch.
