Why you want Dahlie Nicholas in your garden
Dahlia 'Nicholas' – warm dahlia in salmon and copper
Dahlia 'Nicholas' holds a firm place in my top 5 favorites. This is due to its unique color gradient: the petals range from a soft salmon orange at the edges to a coppery red center, often with a hint of yellow. It's precisely this depth of color that photos never quite capture, but in real life, makes the flowers shine.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Nicholas' resembles a water lily dahlia in flower shape. This means the flowers have a flat, open shape that points slightly upward, just like the water lily. The flowers are about 15 cm across and appear from summer until the first frost. The plants grow to about 100 cm tall and produce long stems that are ideal for cutting. The more often you cut, the more new buds will appear.
Location and care
Plant the tubers in the open ground as soon as the risk of night frost has passed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil. Extra watering is important during dry weeks. Remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and encourage new buds. In winter, dig up the tubers and store them in a frost-free place, or cover them with a thick layer of mulch.
Why choose Dahlia 'Nicholas'?
Its warm, deep earth tones blend beautifully. The flowers are beautifully upward-facing, protruding beautifully above the green leaves. This, combined with the long stems, makes it perfect for your summer bouquet.
Combination tip
Combine with other warm shades and flower shapes such as Dahlia Cornel Bronze or the warm butter yellow of Dahlia Buttercup.
