The definition of "tree lily" often raises questions, because what exactly is a tree lily? They aren't trees, and they don't grow up trees. The name actually comes from the height of this lily species. The stems of this lily species can reach a height of 2 meters with about 12 large lily flowers.
Tree lilies are the giants of the Lilium family
Tree lilies are sometimes called the giants of the Lilium family because of their height. This lily species has a thick, sturdy stem that blooms a little taller each year. In the first year, the flower will reach a height of about 1.60 meters, and each year, the flowers will reach a little higher above the garden. Perfect for adding height and structure to the garden, they also have an intensely sweet fragrance, so everyone will notice the blooms.
Plant a group of these fragrant flowers
Due to the height of this lily species, we recommend planting them in clusters, keeping them close together at a distance of about 10 to 15 cm. This is because when the lilies are planted in clusters, the flowers lean on each other, making them more stable and less likely to bend over. A single stem carries quite a bit of weight, so in very windy conditions, we recommend supporting the flowers with a flower stand. Lilies prefer a sunny spot; full sun is no problem, but partial shade is also possible. Lily bulbs reproduce annually through new bulbils. Once planted in a good spot, the lilies will continue to steal the show with more flowers each year.
