Why you want Tree lily Rio Negro in your garden
The Rio Negro tree lily produces stems that tower up to 2 meters above the garden, with glossy scarlet pink to purple flowers and golden stamens. Lilium 'Rio Negro''s name alone raises expectations, and this tree lily certainly lives up to them.
What are tree lilies?
A question we often answer, but which is immediately answered after flowering. The term "tree lily" originated from the height of this lily species. The flower stems can reach a height of 2 meters, with 10 to 12 large lily flowers at the top. These giants bloom from early July for about 4 to 5 weeks. The flowering period can be extended by planting different types of tree lilies in one group; for example, choose a combination with the bright white Lillium White World or for the soft yellow Lilium Honeymoon . Each lily has its own flowering period, so when one variety has finished blooming, another will open, allowing you to enjoy these intensely fragrant flowers for about seven weeks.
A giant in the summer garden
In the first year, the stems will reach a height of about 1.60 m, and after two years, this giant will reach a height of 2 meters. The flowers exude a wonderfully sweet fragrance and are perfect for adding height and structure to the garden.
Plant a group of tree lilies
Tree lilies reach a considerable height and are therefore somewhat more sensitive to weather conditions such as wind and rain. The Blooming Company advises customers to plant at least three lily bulbs close together, with a planting distance of 10 to 15 cm. By planting the lily bulbs in a group, the flowers will support each other and will be much more stable. Moreover, a group of lilies naturally looks more beautiful than a single stem. In very windy locations, we recommend using a flower support to prevent the stems from bending.
Tip from The Blooming Company: Use some of the flowers as cut flowers and leave some in the garden. This way you can enjoy them both indoors and outdoors.
